VP of People
Ada Developers Academy (Ada) is a non-profit, tuition-free coding school for women and gender expansive adults. We focus on serving Black, Latine, indigenous, and Pacific Islander communities, low income people, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our program consists of two highly immersive parts: six months of focused instruction, and five months of internship at partner companies, where students refine their skills working on real-world code.
Ada Developers Academy is looking for an experienced VP of People to be an integral part of our innovative and growing organization. This key member of the executive team will report to and collaborate directly with the CEO in helping shape the experience of our people at Ada throughout their journey from pre-hire to becoming a strong advocate of Ada as alumni. This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary of $140,000 and excellent benefits.
The VP of People will partner with the VP of Equity & Policy to ensure Ada continues to grow as an equitable and inclusive organization. People are critical to the success and ability of Ada to scale our impact across the country. A great VP of people candidate will have national people operations experience, and be excited to find and develop talent that leads to great experiences and outcomes for our students.
Own and creatively drive an equitable and inclusive people experience from sourcing candidates to onboarding, engagement and talent development as part of the Ada team and as alumni
In partnership with the VP of Equity & Policy create and implement systems, policies, and practices that advance Ada’s value of being a anti-racist organization
Lead the development and implementation of Ada’s headcount planning, including recruiting for values-aligned
Collaborate with the executive team in their talent development strategy and evolve the Ada’ employer brand and employee value proposition
Establish strategic initiatives and programs to develop leadership and people management capabilities, identify and grow high potential leaders, and attract external talent to enhance succession while aligning with strategic business initiatives
Provide HR guidance, counsel and strategic input to maximize the effectiveness of Ada and support achievement of growth and business goals. Coach and mentor key team members to help drive high performance
Establish and direct the consistent application of global human resources policies and practices for Ada in compliance with all applicable jurisdictional employment laws. Serve as the escalation and resolution point for all HR related compliance and legal matters
Ensure that compensation, rewards, and benefits strategies and plans continue to attract and retain talent
Listen to and engage with team members on feedback and/or issues that impact the people experience. Present ideas and/or solutions to enhance the people experience based on this feedback
Collaborate with the executive team and others in developing organization OKRs to measure and improve performance and success across the organization
Other duties and special projects as needed
Bachelor’s degree in business with an HR or organizational development emphasis or other relevant field required.
HR certification strongly preferred (e.g., GPHR, SHRM-SCP, etc.)
7+ years of applicable generalist human resources management experience, including at least 2 years of national experience in a fast-paced, high-growth organization.
Experience scaling high-performing teams, with exemplary change management skills
Mission-driven and focused on delivering results
Strong track record of developing and implementing playbooks for fast-growing companies
Entrepreneurial, creative mindset with demonstrated ability to balance speedy and thoroughness to getting things done - comfortable creating, rolling out and iterating on projects on-pace with a high-growth organization
Strong networking, interpersonal and communication skills
Self-driven, innovative, and not afraid to explore new ideas
Compelling ability to connect with people and lead them through organizational growth and change
Competency with office technical tools required (email, spreadsheet, presentation, etc.). Prior experience with the G suite of software (email, Google docs, Google drive, etc.) highly desirable
Ability to travel domestically as needed to meet business needs, and support the team
