About the Organization: 

Ada Developers Academy (Ada) is a non-profit, tuition-free coding school for women and gender expansive adults. We focus on serving Black, Latinx, indigenous, and Pacific Islander communities, low-income people, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our program consists of two highly immersive parts: six months of focused instruction, and five months of internship at partner companies, where students refine their skills working on real-world code.

About the Opportunity: 

Ada Developers Academy is looking for an experienced VP of People to be an integral part of our innovative and growing organization. This key member of the executive team will report to and collaborate directly with the CEO in helping shape the experience of our people at Ada throughout their journey from pre-hire to becoming a strong advocate of Ada as alumni. 

The VP of People will partner with the VP of Equity & Policy to ensure Ada continues to grow as an equitable and inclusive organization. People are critical to the success and ability of Ada to scale our impact across the country.  A great VP of People candidate will have national people operations experience and be excited to find and develop talent that leads to great experiences and outcomes for our students.

Position Responsibilities: 

Organizational Development and Talent Strategy:

  • Establish and direct the consistent application of global human resources policies and practices for Ada in compliance with all applicable jurisdictional employment laws. Serve as the escalation and resolution point for all HR related compliance and legal matters

  • Build organizational capacity to hire, retain, develop and advance outstanding talent and to ensure an inclusive, engaging and high-performing organization.

  • Strategically plan the continuous development of new workforce initiatives as well as the continuous qualitative enhancement of existing workforce practices. 

  • Continuously project human capital needs and challenges and develop actionable initiatives to address them. 

Human Resources Administration and Operations:

  • In partnership with the VP of Equity & Policy create and implement systems, policies, and practices that advance Ada’s value of being a anti-racist organization

  • Serve as the primary knowledge expert in all aspects of human resources administration – compensation, benefits, training, recruitment, orientation, retention, salary administration, etc. and bring technological applications and efficiencies to those processes while delivering high quality services. 

  • Develop key analytics to monitor and regularly report on all critical workforce indicators and develop plans for continuous improvement for workforce excellence and engagement. 

Staff Recruitment and Hiring:

  • Refine and manage the processes to source, attract and select top talent, including non-executive hourly staff, middle management, and executive leadership 

  • Enhancing orientation and onboarding practices to increase the likelihood of a successful and consistently high-quality start for new hires.

  • Assess, coach and mentor the HR team to help them develop the skills and competencies needed to meet the needs of the organization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business with an HR or organizational development emphasis or another relevant field required. 

  • HR certification strongly preferred (e.g., GPHR, SHRM-SCP, etc.)

  • At least seven years of applicable generalist human resources management experience, including at least two years of national experience in a fast-paced, high-growth organization.

  • Experience scaling high-performing teams, with exemplary change management skills

  • Mission-driven and focused on delivering results

  • Strong track record of developing and implementing playbooks for fast-growing companies

  • Entrepreneurial, creative mindset with demonstrated ability to balance speedy and thoroughness to getting things done - comfortable creating, rolling out and iterating on projects on-pace with a high-growth organization

  • Strong networking, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Self-driven, innovative, and not afraid to explore new ideas

  • Compelling ability to connect with people and lead them through organizational growth and change 

  • Competency with office technical tools required (email, spreadsheet, presentation, etc.). Prior experience with the G suite of software (email, Google docs, Google drive, etc.) highly desirable

  • Ability to travel domestically as needed to meet business needs, and support the team
